* * * Vintage 1981 G&L L-1000 Bass Serial # B005537 Custom Finish - Made in the USA « « This vintage bass is in excellent original condition (See photos) and plays great! I am the original owner and purchased this bass new from J&R Music in 1981. After Leo Fender left Music Man in late 1979, it didnâ??t take long before he was back in actionâ??this time with old friends George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt, and a new company, G&L. Having essentially invented the modern electric bass, Leo could have remained content with his legacy, but was driven to develop his new ideas. He worked tirelessly on them until the day he died in 1991, and we bassists owe Leo a huge debt for his contributions. The single-pickup L-1000 was the first bass model designed by Leo Fender at G&L in 1980 and it remained in the G&L lineup until 1991. The L-1000 resembles a Fender Precision Bass except for the G&Lâ??s large humbucking pickup. The electronics, which allow for single coil and humbucking modes, make the L-1000 a bit more versatile than the old Fender bass What follows is a very honest description of the bass's visual appearance: There is one ding on the back of the upper cut-away. The ding has penetrated the finish but is not down to bare wood. There is some minor oxidation on the chrome on the bridge. The most serious of these cosmetic blemishes are circled in the photos contained in this auction.
